Brass and Percussion Week in Cuba
Travel to Cuba with other musicians from around the US to study with teaching artists Chuck Lazarus and Douglas Carlsen, trumpet; Michael Gast, French horn; R. Douglas Wright, trombone and Steven Campbell, tuba. Percussionists will study with Cuban professionals. Work alongside Cuba's top young musicians in daily workshops including lessons, masterclasses, chamber music and school visits with your Cuban peers. Participate in service learning and contribute to the delivery of humanitarian and musical supplies to our partner schools in this musical and cultural exchange week!

Orchestra Week
CAYO comes to life with a full Cuban American Youth Orchestra week in Havana this spring. Students ages 17-26 are invited to apply on the following instruments: Strings, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, French horn, timpani. Details available here!
Havana Quartet at Mayo Clinic
The music of Cuba comes to the Mayo Clinic to brighten up a winter’s day! Monday, December 16 from noon to 1 pm, the Havana Quartet will perform courtesy of the Harmony for Mayo performance series.
These free concerts are held on Mondays from noon - 1:00 pm
in Lips Atrium, Charlton Building-Subway Level and are broadcast live to the Mayo community.
Havana Quartet “Dine-to-Donate” at Longfellow Grill
Support CAYO and great local food on this special Dine-to-Donate Day at Longfellow Grill! The Havana Quartet will perform as part of a community jam session. 15% of proceeds will benefit CAYO programming, so bring your friends and neighbors for a lively afternoon of music and fun!
String Week in Cuba
Travel to Cuba with CAYO teaching artists Desirée Ruhstrat, Masumi Per Rostad and Dr. Melissa Kraut for a transformative week in Havana, Cuba. Open to US-based students ages 13-17 with a parent, ages 18+ solo.
The Student Ambassador Program takes talented musicians from the US and brings them together with their musician peers in Cuba. Students journey to Havana for a week-long immersive musical and cultural exchange led by world-class teaching artists recruited from prestigious music institutions in both countries.
Coqui Calzadilla and Andy Garcia live in Minneapolis
Multi-instrumentalist Coqui Calzadilla and pianist Andy García are in town from Havana, Cuba, with a program of Afro-Cuban favorites and originals. Members of storied musical dynasties in Cuba, these dynamic musicians bring a modern take to the cultural milieu of the island.

Longfellow Community Summer Kick-off!
Doors open at 10 am at Squirrel Haus Arts, a unique gallery and gathering space in the Minneapolis Longfellow neighborhood. Browse Cuban art exhibit curated by local non-profit US Cuba Artist Exchange. Enjoy pop-up performances by the Havana Quartet as well as non-alcoholic beverages and tasty Cuban treats. Learn about host organization CAYO, a Longfellow-based non-profit organization that connects the people of the US and Cuba through music.
This event will also showcase our amazing local businesses! Cafes, restaurants and other businesses in Longfellow help our community to connect and thrive! Support them at our event and beyond.

Woodwind Week in Cuba
Travel to Havana, Cuba with a select group of your American peers alongside nationally-recognized CAYO teaching artists. Work side-by-side with Cuban students at one of the island’s performing arts high schools, such as Escuela Nacional de Música and Conservatorio Amadeo Roldán. Students under 18 travel with a parent. Cuban Music Reading Party

If you love coffee, stop by the Danish American Center to learn about the coffee cultures of Denmark and Cuba on Sunday, April 23 between 11:30 am -12:30 pm. Enjoy Danish kringle, homemade Cuban pastelitos and, of course coffee! The ELXUS Quartet will share selections of Cuban music in this beautiful space on the river.

Cuba Arts Delegation
Minnesota Orchestra musicians Julie Gramolini Williams, Milana Reiche, Dave Williamson, and Tim Zavadil, along with CAYO Executive Director Rena Kraut and Harlem Quartet violinist Ilmar Gavilán, will spend a week in Havana, bringing musical supplies, teaching in secondary schools, and collaborating with local Cuban professional musicians.
