CAYO 2018 Spring Academy

The Cuban American Youth Orchestra proudly presents the Spring Academy in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Four musicians from Havana have been invited to participate in a weeklong workshop from April 15-22, based at the University of Minnesota School of Music. During their time in the Twin Cities, these accomplished students and pre-professionals will learn from University faculty as well as members of the Minnesota Orchestra through coachings, lessons, and side-by-side rehearsals with professional musicians. They will present Cuban and classical music selections to students at St. Paul’s Academia Cesar Chavez and Minneapolis’ Folwell Arts Magnet Elementary School, making connections to the local Latino community through the arts. They will also spend a day in St. Peter, Minnesota presenting for residents at Ecumen Prairie Hill Senior Living Community and experiencing campus life at Gustavus Adolphus College, sitting in on rehearsals and exchanging ideas and music with students at that school’s Department of Music, and ending the day with a Latin jazz jam session.

The Spring Academy will culminate in two free public performances where the students will showcase their work.
